For Immediate Release, Friday 3 January 2020 Activists bring chants and TV’s to share truth at the Perth Cup What: Protest at the Perth Cup When: Saturday 4 January 2020, 9am – 1pm Where: Ascot Racecourse Main Entrance Only a few months have passed since Australia watched in horror as the ABC revealed the racing industry’s horrific retirement plan for thousands of horses. Activists will be reminding punters what it is they are supporting by attending the Perth Cup and calling on the industry for a retirement plan to end the slaughter. “The Perth Cup marketing machine asks – Want to do something a little classy and enjoy some fun and frivolity? You’ll barely see any mention of horses racing. This party could be anywhere. There is absolutely no need to support animal abuse to have a good time.” said Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses (CPR) Campaign Director Elio Celotto. “Token efforts are being made by the industry but no one is actually trying to end the slaughter of horses by investing in a serious retirement plan and addressing over-breeding” Mr Celotto said. “According to the ABC, WA Racing Minister Paul Papalia himself stated that knackeries are a reasonable method of dealing with the challenge of getting rid of a carcass, again highlighting that is how the industry views a used up horse, as nothing more than a carcass.” Attendees will find it difficult to avoid hearing and seeing the truth as they enter the event, as activists will chant industry statistics on deaths on track and on the reality of daily life as a racehorse. Large screen TV’s will bring the gruelling vision of horses being killed on the track and in the slaughterhouse to the eyes of those passing. ENDS For More information: horseracingkills.com |
