“The Fallen” lapel pin by Fascinature
“Fascinature,” a project by Janet Mills, is a reminder of the cycle of nature and a reconnect with the world around us.
Fascinature honours the fallen racehorses of more recent years from the Melbourne Cup – each and every horse by name.
Your lapel pin is named in honour of a racehorse who fell and died during the Spring Racing season. Despite Spring, your horse did not live to enjoy that season’s renewal.
As Autumn looks back to Summer before Winter’s repose, so too your lapel pin is designed to remember nature as it falls back to earth.
Your lapel pin is a wearable form of protest for Melbourne Cup Day.
Wear it with pride in the memory of the racehorse that inspired its design.
While Spring is celebrated in “Fashions on the Field” with the accoutrements of spring blooms and botanicals, “Fascinature” pays reverence to the opposing season, namely Fall to remember those horses that have also fallen.
To wear “The Fallen” is also an opportunity to oppose the concept of ‘The Sweep’. Whilst individuals pick a horse to win and generally savour that horse’s name for Melbourne Cup Day, “The Fallen” encourages us to remember the namesake of our lapel pin, who ran a fateful Melbourne Cup, but will never run again.
Like it’s namesake, “The Fallen” by Fascinature is designed to be returned to the earth.
(All materials excepting steel pin, are compostable, including the natural pine pitch glue).
