Five organisations, Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses, Brightside Farm Sanctuary, Animal Justice Party Tasmania, Animal Liberation Tasmania, and Animals Tasmania are teaming up to support the horses that are forced to run at the Hobart Cup on Elwick Racecourse.
Only during the last racing year, seven Thoroughbred racehorses were killed on Tasmanian racetracks. On Australia Day 26 January 2024, Animal Liberation Tasmania captured how the only three-year-old horse Hell Toff broke his entire fetlock off during a race in Launceston, and the steward report confirms that Hell Toff was subsequently killed.
168 horses lost their lives on Australian racetracks last year. These are only the deaths that can be confirmed and doesn’t include the many hundreds of racehorses who sustained injuries that could have caused the horses to be taken off the track to be killed elsewhere.
Join us when we stand up for the horses. We will meet at the corner of Brooker Highway and Goodwood Road at 11am Sunday 11 February with banners and placards to support the horses involved in the race and to educate the public about the cruelty of horse racing.
