The Racing Industry’s Darkest Secret EXPOSED

October 17, 2019 by admincpr 159 Comments

ABC’s 7:30 has shown Australian’s and the world that horse racing has unequivocally lost its social license.

Watch the breaking episode here.

ABC’s 7:30 has revealed in graphic detail the appalling treatment of racehorses after they finish racing. Despite repeated claims made by the racing industry that they love and care for the horses they use and less than 0.5% are being sent to slaughter, finally the evidence of large numbers of racehorses being killed for pet food and human consumption has been exposed.

CPR has been exposing and educating the public about the brutal reality of horse racing for more than 10 years. What we saw on 7:30 was only part of the story. Stay tuned as CPR vows to continue its fight for justice for racehorses.

I can only describe the sub humans I saw inflicting such barbaric acts in the abattoirs as pure evil.As far as I am concerned they are non human entities. I wonder what the minister for racing is going to come up with to obfuscate the facts that the ABC expose showed. How is he going to downplay the video evidence of the brutality many viewers witnessed last night and how many horses are killed you this so called industry.I don’t think I want to listen to his lies and justifications, it would make me want to vomit.

Only too human, unfortunately. Until human beings learn to respect the animals we share this planet with, these sort of atrocities will continue. Let’s hope it happens sooner rather than later. The more people who care speak up and make their voices heard, the better it will be for animals.

The business of race horse and stallion international sales alone is worse of such there of compared to human trafficking and black market gun sales and The mexican drug cartels and ISIS USA contractors. The hideousness of humanity can only be further revealed in what we further treat not of our own kind.
Disgusting, and pitiful. I live in a state that accommodates patriotically the celebration within the country of such. Within this country is less awful then what’s we’re about there in. Yet, this will never stop me from proudly disputing and reprising the cruelty to these animals even fair treated of a horrible business.

They can never win enough money for the greedy, are discarded as soon as they hurt themselves or run out of steam, if a mare they become breeding machines (Check out Makybe Diva, Black Caviar, Winx ??). Animals never win when they are forced into gambling industries ? Many horses are traumatised, raced too young, having endured awful training methods, have to endure flights all over the world, the list of cruelty goes on ?!

I loved the races and even went to the Melbourne Cup once. I loved dressing up. I never much thought about the well-being of the horses. I don’t know much about horses and just assumed everything was legit. It’s Australia after all, not some primitive, barbaric country that turns a blind eye to animal cruelty all in the name of making some cash. Until, I was right there on the day on the fence for the big race. And to see a horse crash on the track and the screen go up nearly made me physically sick. The horse was killed. It changed everything. It’s greed and it’s barbaric !

Horse racing is all about the money. It is the “Sport of sadists” because it is INHERENTLY cruel …. for MANY reasons. The VERY worst of it is NOT the breaking in of horses at the tender age of only TWO years old, the frequent whipping and other abuse, the drugging, the tongue-tying, or even the horses that die ON the track …… It is the hidden “WASTAGE”.
Thousands of healthy, young horses are being routinely OVERbred ….to be SACRIFICED! Even champion horses are routinely slaughtered.
Please …. take action NOW. Sign, share, protest, donate. And NEVER attend a race or bet.

I will never bet on any type of animal race again. What is the matter with these people..would they discard and treat their own family the way they do with their horses. SHAME SHAME SHAME.

I watched this programme tonight and was utterly disgusted by what I saw. Man’s inhumanity to man is eclipsed by his inhumanity to animals, especially horses and greyhounds. These poor animals are used for entertainment and to make money out of and then disposed of in the worst possible way imaginable. This is an indelible stain on the horse racing industry and one they cannot deny any longer. I await reports of legal action against the people responsible.

I used to be partners in owning race horses, went to the races and yes loved it. Then I started to see how the horses were treated, how young they were, the injuries they suffered. Slowly I found out more and more about the industry, the wastage and believe me its no secret in the industry. That was more then 10 years ago, have never attended nor will I ever attend the races again, don’t do cup sweeps or have a bet. The more people see and know, the more people will understand just what is involved in this so called sport of kings.

I love horses but in reality they are often a source for dog eat. Racehorses may not be suitable for rehoming should be euthanised humanely ? At the race stables. My main concern in watching this programme is the behaviours in the abattoirs of the staff . I protest the way animals are treated in transports overseas and their ultimate cruel death. I am appalled that abattoirs in Australia are seen to be no better! Beating with pipes, electric devices, And the cruelty displayed towards dying animals should be investigated and those involved and filmed should be charged and dealt using animals welfare laws.

I just can not comprehend the mentality of the people who carry out this cruelty> electric shocks, kicking, whipping, swearing at an animal with no hope of protecting itself. How can the workers who do this be caring loving partners and parents?

Politicians who need legislation to ensure they declare what they have spent of tax payers money, prepared to ignore the treatment to animals to top up their huge salaries and overspending?

They are abused, dopped, whipped to make money for their owners and when they don’t- they go to slaughter. Those intelligent, sensitive, beautiful animals mean NOTHING to the greedy horseracing industry, the Victorian Government supporting it and those who get rich from them. What has been revealed is just the tip of an iceberg. BOYCOTT the racing, BOYCOTT the Melbourne Cup and the Spring Carnival, never ever bet on hourses as you are betting on their pain and suffering. Saw this documentary pop up on google news, and watched on YouTube.

Replying from Ontario, Canada, this shakes us to our core.

There are no explanations that explain the slaughter of animals that have been put through the rigours of training, making money on the tracks to support the lives of owners and trainers, to feed families, clothe your children, and so you can drive your vehicles in luxury everyday, fatten your wallets and line your pockets with paper and coin, then, to throw them in a swamp full of evil and watch them end up on the platters of european and asian deli’s and restaurants, as you sip your glass of champagne and laugh over who is going to be the next big winner, and eventual slaughterhouse master…..

You sicken the world of fans, supporters of thoroughbred aftercare communities, and the public, you should be ashamed to even walk the dirt of a track your horses raced upon.

You all should face the wrath of the justice system for failing to provide proper retirement for those who have layed down their lives for your personal gain and greed.

If they’re not sick, dying or very old then WHY? I don’t attend rodeos either after seeing a strong, healthy steer break his back while bucking. He dragged himself out of the arena on his two front legs . Wasn’t put down for 4 hours. Happens to horses as well. The only way I would attend one now is to have the camera rolling and share with the world how barbaric animal ‘sports’ are.

The racing industry was always made to be a special event with so much glamour and romanticism attached. When the dirty reality of this industry like so many others is exposed people pretend they had no idea? Some may not have but the rest have just pretended that it didn’t exist. Go the extra mile people and stop breeding dogs and cats too…where do you think pet food comes from?? So much of pet food is unwanted horses. Cows, sheep, goats and chickens all have a right to life the same as horses too. Horses are a very loving animal and deserve better lives than are given to them. Humans have the right to contraception so as not to overpopulate and horses should not be breed needlessly so that someone might just have a win at the races!

I cant believe i just heard the head of racing & the head of rugby Peter Valandy just said on nation television (30/10/20) that it was only 3 race horses that was were killed & slipped through the rules of not sending race horses to their deaths at a meat factory. ONLY 3. WTF. Stop horse racing for ever. They built our country & we race them to their deaths.
Stop this cruel industry & sack Peter Valandys from horse racing Australa.

I worked in the industry for a year about thirty years ago.
It’s a weird world where rich people pay poor tiny people to whip horses for a few guineas and bragging rights.
They call it, The Sport of Kings.
I’d suggest shining a spot light on Queen Elizabeth II and the Arabian princes that prop up this industry.
It’s more corrupt than dog racing… The bucks just come in bigger bundles.
