Last year’s Perth Cup saw the tragic on-track death of Chili is Hot. She was just one of five horses killed on race day at Ascot in the 2022-2023 racing year. CPR’s Deathwatch Report 2023 indicates Ascot ranks in the top three most deadly tracks in Australia, tied with Aquis Park, QLD. In total 168 horses were killed on Australian tracks in the last year, one death every two days.
We will welcome in the New Year standing up against animal exploitation – Join us to say Nup to the Perth Cup.
On 1st Jan, horses at Ascot will endure the torture of metal bits in their mouths, their tongues tied, spurs thrust into their sides and whips used to push them as hard as possible. Studies have shown up to 95% of thoroughbreds exhibit haemorrhaging in the lungs post-race and over 80% develop stomach ulcers during racing preparation. Raise your voice and placards against this government sanctioned animal cruelty.
Please dress smart-casual – dressing up is encouraged.
Come prepared for the weather – bring a hat, sunscreen and water. There may not be shade.
